Q: Can my name be taken of our lease without my consent?

My family are currently sharing a house with another family since June of 2019. Right after the first of the year for some reason they decided they did not want us living with them anymore. First they said they were moving out then a few days later one of them came in and told us that they told the landlord to take our name off the lease and we had thirty days to move he, not the landlord, would be changing all the locks. Then last week he slipped a note under the door saying the same thing. That on February 11, 2020 at 5:00 pm the locks would be changed. We have always paid our share of the rent on time. My question is can the landlord just take us off the lease without my written consent. I have a signed copy of the lease we all three signed. Or can they write up a new lease without my name on it without my consent?

A: If you signed a valid written lease, and it still is in effect, it cannot be changed without your consent. They are attempting an improper eviction. Use the Find a Lawyer tab to retain a local attorney to review the circumstances and advise the landlord and others that you will take legal action. If you are locked out, call the police, but they might not do anything. Call the police in advance and tell them what is happening so you know what help, if any, to expect from them, if the locks are changed.
