Asked in Criminal Law for Minnesota

Q: My bf has a public defender and is locked up facing some very serious charges. The pd is not doing what we need.

We really need to retain an attorney for my boyfriend in Minnesota. His family is in Florida and I am in Alabama. I'm willing to retain the attorney but however I have no idea what the average cost is for a criminal defense attorney because none of us have ever dealt with this. Could you please give me some information as to the standard cost for this. We have evidence that police have tampered with and we have signatures that the police admit to doing their self. The other person arrested has confessed and they were the aggressor in the situation and has not tied my boyfriend to any of the activity from that situation. But because they were traveling together from South Carolina they lumped them together and charged both. They even went as far as to post pictures of them online and on the news saying that they had caught the assailants within an hour of arresting them; and that they were looking for no one else. The photo lineup was hours after the release of pictures. Please advise

A: The charge for private representation is dependent on the charges and the defendant’s criminal history. None of that is referenced here. Contact attorneys in the area where your boyfriend is charged.

A: It is going to be impossible to even ball park a fee because I don’t know the charge, the criminal history, or the stage of the case.

A: Great question. The best way to answer it is to call me with the court file number and his prior criminal conviction history. With that info,I could provide a good estimate.
