Q: What state do I file divorce in? I got married in Maine then moved to Florida, then back to Alabama.
Got married in Maine, lived there for a month. Moved to Florida, lived there for 7 months. Then moved to Alabama and lived here for 3 months. Moved back to Maine for another 2 months. We have been separated since April 2018. I live in Alabama, she lives in Maine.
A: Hello. If there are no children and no assets to divide, then file here....assuming she is capable of being served either by certified mail or private process server. If it's uncontested, then have an attorney draw up the papers and have her sign/notarize them. Attorney will file them in your county and divorce will be granted because she agreed to jurisdiction when she signed all the documents. Hope this helps. Best of luck!
