Dallas, TX asked in Traffic Tickets for Texas

Q: Can the police run temporary tags to see if the car is insured or not if you cant find your insurance card (Texas)

My boyfriend was buying the Car from an individual and had to get temporary tags. I got pulled over and couldn't find the insurance card and the police told me that they couldnt verify insurance by running a temporary tag and arrested me for driving with license invalid without financial responsibility. Which I had. When i went to court on it, i took proof that it was insured currently and at the time of the stop, and the judge wouldn't even look at it and instead she reset my court date. I even told the police the name of the insurance company and he wouldn't try to verify it.

A: The question is whether the car was insured on the date and time the ticket was issued; proof of current insurance will not dismiss a no insurance citation. Get a letter from your insurance company that the cat was insured on the date of the ticket.
