Q: I am a 63 year old woman, working for the same company 14 years. Company changed my position and didn't give me options.
This is an entirely different position. I was told in December that they were looking for a place to "put" me. I had no choice in the matter or given any option, company focus was changing to some extent. Went from outside sales management, to working with inside global education department, but I am basically a "glorified" administrative assistant. Current company (was privately held), recently purchased by a large public company. Have always had great reviews every year, never written up! Glad to be employed, but do not like anything about the new position. Been thrown in and am drinking from a fire hose as everything about this position is completely new to me. I feel like I want to quit or be let go so I can collect unemployment. If I were to quit, would I be able to collect unemployment? What options do I have? Or do I have any? It will take me a while to get another position, as you would imagine. Thank you for your thoughts.
A: I would reach out to an employment lawyer in your state to go over options. I'm not sure about Illinois, but in Ohio you would typically not be eligible to receive unemployment if you quit.

There are certain circumstances under which you may be eligible for unemployment even if you quit, but based on the information you provide it seems unlikely.
