Morganton, NC asked in Traffic Tickets for North Carolina

Q: I have a traffic ticket that was due to be paid but I've been laid off due to covid 19..will they give me a penalty?

A: Under normal circumstances a Failure to Reduce Speed ticket should likely have been dismissed (meaning there would be nothing for you to have to pay) so if you handled this yourself - odds are you didn't do it right. If you do not pay, yes a $200 penalty will likely apply and DMV will be notified to start action to suspend your license. However, with the china virus, most courts are taking steps to help people so you may or may not get a break. Your best bet would have been and still is to hire a local traffic attorney to handle this for you properly. Under most circumstances our clients with this charge end up paying us less for us to handle to handle this type of ticket for them than it would be for them to just pay it off.
