Ayden, NC asked in Child Custody for Alabama

Q: In Alabama, at age 16 can a child leave home to live with other relatives when I have custody?

The child will be turning 16 in June. She is my granddaughter from my deceased son. Her mother is deceased as well, Feb. 5, 2014 and my son Nov.21, same year. The relatives on her mothers side is putting ideas in her head that she does not have to live with me when she turns 16. The child feels like she can't do what ever she wants here and she's right, she can't.

A: In a word, no. You have custody until she is 19 years old. If they keep the child from you they are committing custodial interference. Tell them send the child back to you.
