Q: I am wanting to get a handgun permit I have a felony 25years ago it is sealed would that deny me

A: Yes. You are still a convicted felon in the eyes of the State of Illinois.

Sealing means that the records have been hidden from public view, not that the records no longer exist.

The only way to legally be able to acquire a handgun in the State of Illinois will be if the Governor of the State of Illinois issues you a pardon for the offense, wiping away the conviction.

There are criminal defense attorneys who handle pardon applications. I would contact a lawyer to go about making the case to have your conviction erased by the Governor.
