Metairie, LA asked in Family Law for Mississippi

Q: What can we do to get my granddaughter back?

My daughter lives in Mississippi and her ex is refusing to give her daughter back to her. He told her “Good luck with being able to do anything about it during this pandemic”. They were never married and both lived in petal Mississippi until recently he went to stay in Wiggins Mississippi with his new girlfriend. He told her he wouldn’t let her get her daughter because she works at the hospital and she is putting their daughter in danger by going to work because of the virus. It’s been 2 weeks. My daughter calls her and her daughter cries that she wants her to come and get her. We don’t have money to pay a lawyer right now and don’t know what we can do. Can you please offer some advice?

A: Your best bet will be to try and contact a legal aid organization, such as Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project, to see about getting a lawyer who can assist with an emergency hearing.
