Canton, OH asked in Child Support for Ohio

Q: My question is concerning child support laws in Ohio.

I have a son who will be turning 23 soon. My daughter turned 21 recently. There has never been a child support court order. Their mother and I were never married. We mutually agreed that I would pay her an agreed upon amount over the years. I quit paying because she was non-supportive of me in their lives. I had a lifetime of trying to be a dad, while their mother always blocked me every step of the way. She married and had another child, who is now a teen. It seems their mother never really wanted me to be a part of the "family", rather just to send money. I quit sending money when I got sick of never being involved. I finally played hardball with her one time and said that if she wants any money out of me she needs a court order. She told me to just support the kids if they ever ask for help. My name is on both of their birth certificates. Both kids have my last name. My question is this: Can one or both of my kids now take me to court and file an order?

A: No. An order would have had to be established when they were minors.
