Voorheesville, NY asked in Traffic Tickets for North Carolina

Q: How do I get my license back?

In 2012, I was in a bad car accident with my two small children. I went to court for it and was found not at fault. Later on the others guys insurance(geico) asked a different judge to suspend my license until I paid them 16,000! I explained to them, after finding out that my license was suspended again because of geico, that the accident wasn’t my fault and that due to medical reasons, I didn’t know I didn’t have insurance at the time of the accident. Because I didn’t have insurance the state gave me an option to let my license be suspended for 12 months and then get it back and no points. Or pay a fine. I took the suspension. 2020 I paid $100 and mailed a form asking for an admin hearing to ask a judge to lift the suspension but my paperwork isn’t being viewed by a judge. A clerk sent a letter saying to just pay the $16,000. I haven’t had a license since 2012 because of this and can’t get a regular job either.

A: Your best bet is to hire a traffic attorney. Most likely DMV will determine if you can be reinstated and under what terms. At this point, it is likely neither the court nor a Judge has any authority regarding your suspension. Best of luck.
