Bogota, NJ asked in Criminal Law for New Jersey

Q: Can I travel to Florida without having to register under Megan’s law

I have a charge of possession of cp in New Jersey however I am not required to register under Megan’s law. I am currently on probation and my probation officer has to give me a travel permit to be out of the state more then 24 hours. Last time I went to Florida she got a call while I was there saying that since I was there on vacation for 8 days I would have to register under Megan’s law

A: We would need to see the original paperwork for your plea to answer this question properly. BUT each state also has its own laws so maybe you need to register in FLA even if you don't need to register in NJ.

A: You should review your judgement of conviction for your case. That would list all the conditions of probation. A probation officer cannot change your sentence. Only a judge can change or add conditions of your sentence or probation and that would have to be done in court with you present.
