Chickasha, OK asked in Family Law and Juvenile Law for Oklahoma

Q: I have a 17 year old friend in Texas who is living with an abusive father, can I go get her & bring her here?

My friend turns 18 in December but is there anything I can do to help her before that? I live in Oklahoma, would it be legal to let her live with me until she turns 18?

Edit: Some information about the situation that I forgot to mention, mostly because she had an incident with her father tonight and I was in a rush. She has nobody else to go to, my friend is an adopted child & has no relation to any blood-related family. There is very little physical evidence of her abuse due to the fact that it is mental abuse, neglect, & a lack of treatment for multiple medical issues. She also has been denied the ability to get any form of id or job, I understand the need for contact with DHS but her father has a history of threatening her if she or a friend report it. Would there be any legal ramifications on me or her if I took her from that house?

A: Have her call, or you can call, DHS (CPS in Texas) and report the abuse, They will do a welfare check and if she is honest with them they will most likely take her out of the home and place her with another family member or friend of the family. I have seen it before where these emergency placements can be out of State, especially if it is in an adjacent State.
