San Jose, CA asked in Traffic Tickets for California

Q: I have a trail date set for June 1st, 2020 for failure to stop red light ticket in san mateo courthouse.

Due to COVID, i rather pay the ticket and avoid court room exposure. Is this still an option?

A: There is a website for the San Mateo courthouse online. You should search for that and find out how they are handling traffic or any kind of case. You may be a lucky one that is caught with the COVID Court closures, and not be assessed for FAILING TO APPEAR, which adds at least and additional $300.00 Civil Assessment to the ticket.

Go online and see if you can still pay without penalty. If not, courthouses are going to open mid month, go down and tell the clerk you could not pay because they were closed. See what happens. If the worst happens, go to the courtroom and tell the judge you could not pay because they were closed and he will probably let you skate on the Civil Assessment if you are ready to pay the ticket.
