A: It depends. Are you over 18? Are you a collector? Where do you want to have it? at home? OK. In the front seat of your car? Probably not a good idea. Are you just speaking about owning one for curiosity sake? The Katana, or Japanese long sword is considered a knife and is subject to the same concealed carry permit laws as other weapons in California. Suggest you do some research on the internet, I found several good sites with references to the Cal Penal Code statutes concerning knives.
