A: When were you married? Michigan is generally a "no fault" state when it comes to divorce and so for purposes of divorce, cheating doesn't really matter. Spousal support is possible, particularly in long term marriages (generally over 10 years), and when there is some fault attributed to one party, PROVIDED there is a need for such support and the person paying has the ability to pay it. Spousal support is not intended as punishment; it falls in line with the court's mandate to equitably divide the assets, debts, and other issues contained within the marriage.

Your marriage date is important. A 10 year marriage doesn't turn in to a 25 year marriage just because you were together and had kids.
