Q: How could I go about purchasing this design and copyright?

There are two options that basically stem from the root of asking the person who owns the right for permission to use it.

(1) Ask for a license. Basically you just would tell them what you plan on doing and see if they will allow you to do it. You may have to pay them for those rights.

(2) Ask for an assignment of rights. This is the same idea as (1) except you would personally own the copyright for the content. This could just be an assignment of the right to reproduce or to distribute the copyrighted content, so you want to make sure you have those terms in a writing and clarified.

Either way, you're going to want a signed writing by the owner. Make sure they have all of the rights and there aren't other people who own rights in the content.

A copyright attorney that has experience with contracts can clarify the issues to make sure you are doing what's necessary.
