A: A lot of prayer. In all seriousness, if your income qualifies you for a public defender, then the Court will assign one. If you do not qualify for a public defender, you are likely going to need a Go Fund Me account or a wealthy relative (or you are going to have to implement austerity measures in your budget). Private criminal defense counsel willing to take on a pro bono case is going to be incredibly difficult to find. That being said, if your case involves wrong-doing by the police - some infringement upon your rights or discrimination due to your membership in a protected class - you may be able to seek the assistance of the ACLU or a similar civil rights organization.
