Asked in Child Custody and Family Law for Louisiana

Q: Moving child out of state?

If there is no written custody agreement between the father and I what steps do I need to take to legally move out of state with the child given that the other parent is fine with it? He pays child support and we have never had an issue remaining civil when it came to moving within the state or setting up a schedule

A: Have your attorney prepare a Notice and Consent Judgment. Then start packing.

A: It is my strong recommendation that regardless of whether or not you have an oral agreement to relocate out of the state that you send him a certified return receipt requested letter that complies with the state relocation statute of your intent to relocate and put all information required by that statute.
