Huntington Beach, CA asked in Traffic Tickets for California

Q: I received a ticket in 1/2019 for expired registration tags. My license was suspended when I failed to appear at court.

I no longer own any vehicle. They’ve sent my ticket to collections it’s $610. I’ve never been through this before is it best and easier to get my license back by paying the collection company and going to the dmv with proof or?

A: Apparently you were issued a ticket for driving the vehicle with expired tags, which required your personal appearance. This could have been resolved by appearing with tags and paying $25 processing fee. When you did not show, you also got an FTA, which got your license suspended and now you say you don't have the vehicle any more. Not owning the vehicle today does not erase the violation on the date of the ticket. Now you must pay for the $50 fine plus penalty assessment and the $300+ civil assessment for the FTA. Sending the money to the collection company should take care of this but your license will be suspended while this occurs. The quicker way to do it is to go to court for an Arraignment, and pay the fines the Judge assesses you at that time. Your license suspension will be removed usually within 24 hours. (not over a weekend)
