A: The black letter law isn't hard to understand but I guess it could be summed up as "don't install a tracking device on a vehicle without permission."

A: Unless you own the vehicle in question , or have leased it in your own name, you can't install or have another person install (for you) a tracker on another person's vehicle without their permission or pursuant to court order. Looks like a police officer can install such a device if she is dooing so in connection with a legitimate criminal investigation. Looks like she (officer) doesn't even need a warrant, at least under this staute. Federal law may contol this issue.

So answer is no, dude, you can't keep track of your girlfriend by sticking a beeper under her bumper, unless she's driving your car.
