A: If you are behind in rent you should have gotten a 5 day notice to quit from the landlord, which basically says move out or pay up. After that period is completed and you have not paid up, then you are sort of a squatter. I imagine this is your situation. then you have to be served with eviction papers. Illinois has a moratorium on evictions due to covid through 9/22. If you cannot pay due to covid, you should fight the eviction. Many landlords are not filing evictions right now because of this. So now he is trying to evict you constructively. No that is not right.
