Brooklyn, NY asked in Traffic Tickets for New Jersey

Q: An off duty officer called in an on duty officer to pull me over for following him too closely after he cut me off.

An off duty officer cut me off, i maintained my speed next thing i know I'm getting pulled over. Apparently it was the chief of police and he had someone come who didn't even see what happened to give me a ticket.

A: The witness for the state would be the off-duty police officer. In New Jersey A police officer doesn't need to see the violation himself to issue a ticket. This is a Five Point ticket so I would suggest that you get a good lawyer as it will increase your insurance rates a small fortune. Most of us traffic ticket lawyers offer a free in office consultation, I suggest that you sent one up.

A: You don't state what ticket you were given. Regardless, especially since it is the Chief of Police as a witness, you should get a lawyer. The case might have to be referred to another town.
