Asked in Family Law, Child Custody and Child Support for Louisiana

Q: What would joint custody consist of in Louisiana if my ex boyfriend (daughters' dad) files for it?

My girls are 2 yrs old and 8 months and they visit him Wed night through Sat morning every other weekend, we recently had a child support hearing and I found out he filed for a custody hearing. When we broke up he said before he was going to file for joint custody so he wouldn't have to pay me. What is he trying to accomplish by doing that? They stay with me majority time and I have been the primary residence for them. No convictions, no drug use, we are really normal parents but he really doesn't not want to pay anything for the girls while they are with me on my time.

A: Joint custody means you both have to mKe any non emergency decisions for them. Joint custody can range from shared 50/50 to alternate weekends. He may still have to pay child support even with shared custody if he makes more than you. Hire a custody lawyer.
