Mechanicsville, VA asked in Traffic Tickets for Virginia

Q: How to ask for dismissal or reduced charge in Traffic Court?

Virginia Interstate 81 I had a single car accident. Heavy rain storm and car hydroplaned when I slowed down for exit. Avoided other cars but slid off road causing damage to the car I was driving. Cited for Failure to maintain control of vehicle-not cited for anything else . Have since learned that is part of reckless driving statute in Virginia. There was no specific action on my part that was reckless to cause the accident it was just accident . No one stopped so there is no other witness statement

A: Sounds like I would appear and maintain the same. Sometimes an accident is just an accident, especially since there were no other cars involved in the accident. I would take the time to speak to an attorney that's local to your area and get a feel for the judges there but sounds like something you don't need to hire someone for. Present your argument about your driving not being reckless - not speeding, not driving erratically, bad weather. Good luck!
