Pomona, CA asked in Traffic Tickets for California

Q: Can I not show up to court for a speeding ticket that was messed up?

An officer wrote TBD on my speeding ticket (I was told this means "to be determined") then proceeded to write in the incorrect adress. Do I have to call them every month to check and see if the ticket went through? Can they put a warrant out for my arrest if I dont?

A: You can, but there could be consequences. Welcome to Traffic Enforcement in the Justice System. If your ticket is scheduled for arraignment and you don't show: 1. you will be assessed a Civil assessment of $300.00 for the FTA; and 2. your license could be suspended. If you are stopped for anything, you would be driving on a suspended license, an additional charge, either $50 or $100 fine, translating into $285 and $490 (penalty assessments and cost vary from county to county) Just because we are battling Covid does not mean that all violations, fines and penalties are forgiven, just that they are delayed. Warrant? It is possible depending on your record.
