Midlothian, IL asked in Traffic Tickets and Car Accidents for Illinois

Q: I believe someone called the police on me but none have shown up yet.

I was at a light when someone honked and accelerated quickly as I did and tried to cut around me quickly getting very close to my car without using a turn signal, I didn't allow them to pass until we were both well over the legal limit and although I should not have we both drove recklessly as they continued to try to pass me. I had the thought in mind to try to slow down and let them pass at the next light to get behind them so that I could take not of their license plate because they were drive by erratically before I had begun to, which was most definitely a mistake. Instead they kept on me and when I missed my opportunity to get behind them I instead saw them use their phone while what I assume was them calling the police and taking note of my license plate. It has been about an hour and a half and no police have shown up to my house. Am I going to be arrested? In my state I have driven fast enough for it to be classified as a Class A or B Misdemeanor. Please help

A: The important thing here is that you recognize that your behavior was ill-considered and could well have ended in your arrest/and or loss of your driving privileges. Let it be a lesson learned. Wherever you are, stay there for the evening. No officer is going to issue a ticket for behavior that he or she does not witness, personally. Remember the way you felt prior to receiving this response when a similar situation may next present itself. Good luck and stay safe.

A: If the police do come to your door, say nothing and tell them that you will not answer any questions without your attorney present. If they say they are arresting you, you must go with them and you can not resist. They do not have to tell you why they are arresting you. If you are that concerned, you should hire a criminal defense attorney right away.
