A: Your wife would need to discuss this with an attorney who practices in the Dominican Republic. I'm sorry for her ordeal. Before investing money in exploring the merits of the case, it might be helpful to determine which courts would have jurisdiction over such a matter. I can't speak for civil practice rules followed in the Dominican Republic, but if jurisdiction and venue are established by either the place where the malpractice occurred or the courts in the district where defendant resides (the way they would be under Federal Rules of Civil Procedure), that could be a formidable obstacle. But this is not something to be speculated on a Q & A board - contact an attorney in the Dominican Republic for meaningful guidance on the EXACT way things would work. Good luck
