Fort Smith, AR asked in Car Accidents and Personal Injury for Arkansas

Q: Is the accident report from the state police department the final investigation report?

Or is it different from the state investigation and how long does that all take, when i called the state police they said the final report is done and available for pick up at the state office so does that mean it's all completed and the final investigation to determine the at fault party and any additional details regarding it

A: An Arkansas attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for three weeks. As a GENERAL matter in most jurisdictions, what you describe is usually the extent of an accident report. Drivers are given a chit at the scene and can pick up final reports in around ten days for a small fee, depending on the precinct. Official investigations beyond what highway safety officers document at the scene are usually done only in catastrophic accidents. You could double-check with a local attorney to be certain, but if you have the typed or printed accident report, that's uaually it in most places. Good luck
