Lake Forest, CA asked in Traffic Tickets for California

Q: What does Bail Forfeiture mean?

I had my license suspended unfortunately due to not paying a ticket on time. I finally got the funds and paid the ticket and today I got a letter saying the bail was forfeited and a bunch of other stuff I don’t understand. What does that mean? Do I need to do anything else? Also, would my next step be contacting the DMV to get my license back? Or do I need to go through the court? Thank you!

A: You probably need to go to Court to make sure that the Court tells the DMV that you have taken care of your financial obligations, completely. Then the DMV will release the suspension on your license. When you sent in the money you were posting bail, it was forfeited when you did not report for the next scheduled hearing. Would have to see all paperwork to advise fully. Patricia Wagner in OC practices traffic Ticket representation and could assist you.
