Libertyville, IL asked in Civil Litigation for Illinois

Q: My ex-husband was ordered twice to pay me 17,500 in attorneys fees. He appealed, and lost. How can I collect it?

My attorney doesn't want to hire a collection agency to get it. Can we do a wage garnishment?

A: If you have a final judgment, then you have the options to: 1) garnish wages from the employer 2) garnish funds from a known bank account 3) file and serve a Citation to Discover Assets which will require a further court appearance(s) and testimony would be taken regarding income and assets 4) record the judgment against any property that is owned. Some of these options can be taken simultaneously. What is the best option should be reviewed with your attorney.
