Dallas, TX asked in Traffic Tickets for Texas

Q: Is it legal for a cop to add charges onto my ticket after a traffic stop

I was pulled over for speeding while in-between 2 cars and on my ticket it says I got a registration charge and a speeding charge but I got a letter in the mail that says they're charging me with failure to provide financial responsibility, unsafe speed for prevailing conditions (dry roads at night) speeding (58 in a 40) and registration im just wondering if its legal for them to charge me with things I was never made aware of and if they can charge me with speeding while I was in between 2 cars

A: What you describe is legal. An officer has the right to cite you for whatever offense he/she believes you committed, and can file such charges at large. Understand that if you just pay these tickets, your license may be suspended, so call n attorney before contacting the court. Good luck.
