Hawley, PA asked in Traffic Tickets for Pennsylvania

Q: I was given a speeding & careless driving citation for going 103 in a 70. I am 20 & this was my first time pulled over.

The total fines amounted a total of $348. $246 from the careless driving & $102 from the speeding. I was wondering if there was any way to not have my license suspended & a decrease of the money owed, because I don’t believe there was carelessness involved seeing as there was no cars in front of me and that I am a good driver with no intent to hurt anyone. I also was not positive about the point system, I looked it up and it says I would have 8 total points which we put in the suspended category from the two citations.

A: You will likely lose your license at that speed. First, plead not guilty on both citations and you will get a court date. Second, hire a lawyer immediately to go with you to court. There may be options to reduce the tickets so that you do not lose your license. You did not say what county this occurred in. Some judges may require you to attend a defensive driving course in order to save your license.
