A: Always a difficult question because it does involve a financial commitment and often times emotions get in the way of rational decisions when it comes to separating a household.

If the divorce is amicable (rarely), there are no disareements about assets and debts (and your financial circumstances are not complicated), and there are no minor children in the marriage it is possible to get a divorce without attorneys. There are lots of public resources available to help you through the process.

If any of the factors above are present or not present and confusing, then I dont recommend trying to get a divorce without the advice and counsel of an attorney.

You can start by reviewing available materials concerning family on most court websites. If you can understand the process and requirements and are comfortable with the requirements above, then you may be able to move forward. Good luck.
