Falmouth, KY asked in Divorce for Kentucky

Q: I am separated from my husband in KY. The divorce is not final but he wants me to immediately cancel my health insurance

Can he make me or can he cancel the insurace before the divorce is final? I thought there was a KY law that covers this issue but I have been unable to find it

A: I am not sure by your question if the health insurance is with his employer or your employer? You can cancel the insurance whenever you want to if it is in your name with your employer. He can't make you cancel your own insurance. You would have to inform your employer when you are officially divorced. If the insurance is with his employer that is a different story. You should speak with an Attorney about this matter. You could ask the Court to enter a Status Quo Order which makes both parties continue to pay the same bills and maintain accounts while a divorce is pending.
