Q: Does a Crim/Traf Non-Mand (fishing without a license) stay on your record if paying the fine.
My son received a ticket Crim/Traf Non-Mand (fishing without a license) while in fish house with two other friends. He did not have a pole in his hand but 3 lines were in the water. DNR gave him a ticket for 97C.301.2. The DNR say if he pays the fine it will not be on his record. Is that accurate?
A: Typically paying a citation will create a record. However, if this is a petty misdemeanor, that is considered non-criminal. If he wants to keep it off of his record, he should consult with an attorney. There are ways to keep these things from becoming a conviction.
