Asked in Criminal Law for New Hampshire

Q: Can I get in trouble for throwing away trash in the trash can of a public business?

Not boxes or big trash bags, usually trash and wrappers from my lunch or trash I accumulated in my car like water bottles

A: A New Hampshire attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for three weeks. As a GENERAL matter, some states consider it a misdemeanor, some equating it to theft of services or something along those lines. Whatever the case, it would be best to hold on to the trash until you got to a gas station vacuum cleaning center or simply taking it home. Although in reality, many places might not care if a passerby tossed a gum wrapper or empty coffee cup into a dumpster, technically speaking, depending on applicable state statutes, it could be seen as a minor offense/crime. Good luck
