Lancaster, TX asked in Animal / Dog Law for Texas

Q: My dog somehow disappeared from the yard and never returned. We believe we know where she is. What rights do we have?

My dog somehow disappeared from the yard 3 days ago and never returned which is very unlikely. She recently just had a litter of puppies who are not completely weened off and depends on her for feeding. Word of mouth makes us strongly believe we know where she is being housed. If we wanted the authorities to get involved what are our rights? If called will they go and take a look. This very same person has dozens of dogs on his acres of land and I’m scared if we go to him and ask he will be alarmed and move her. (A few months ago this same person asked to buy the same dog that is missing. How should we handle this. Roxsie is not just a pet she is family and I’m sure she misses us just as much as we are missing her.

A: You won't know what the cops will agree to do if you don't call them. Tell them what you know that leads you to believe she's at a particular place.
