Q: Is it better to plead guilty to a minor traffic ticket and avoid points or plead no contest and take the points?
In Cleveland they recently made it known (through a flyer attached to my ticket) that I can plead guilty and not get any points as opposed to pleading no contest and getting points on my license. It was for not making a complete stop at a stop sign.
A: It sounds like they are offering you to plead to a lesser offense, such as a non-moving violation. If you receive enough points, your license may be suspended and your insurance rates may go up, or you may be dropped by your carrier. You should speak to an attorney about your specific case, but I always find it helpful to not have points on a license.
