Q: Louisiana, is there any chance of a non blood relative getting custody of a child that they have raised after parentdies

Louisiana, is there any chance of a non blood relative getting custody of a child that they have raised after parent is decease?

my daughter has been dating a guy for a while, and he had full custody of his baby, the baby lived with her and him, the real mother is in sober living and abandoned the baby when the baby was 2 months old, the father, my daughters boyfriend passed away, my daughter has been raising the baby since he was 4 months old, the baby just turned one, the grandmother now has the baby, 3 hours away from where they lived, the baby has established daycare, doctor and everything where we live, the baby calls my daughter mother because she is all he has ever known, that is who the baby is familiar with and lived with, my daughter was the primary caretaker of the baby, other than his father. Does my daughter have any chance at all of getting custody of the baby, she wants the baby, I just really need some advice before we move any further

A: Your daughter needs to hire a custody lawyer to file for custody.
