Las Vegas, NV asked in Civil Litigation for Nevada

Q: My car was towed for not having current registration on 2/19/2021 from a condo unit of which I am a resident.

I have an appt with the DMV on 4/27/2021. The tow yard will not release the vehicle without a moving permit. The DMV will not issue a temp moving permit without insurance, smog cert...etc. I can’t get a smog without the vehicle, can’t get the vehicle without a moving permit and can’t get a moving permit without a smog. Meanwhile, the tow yard is adding $37/day in storage fees. The Governers Directive dated 3/20/2020 directs tow co operators to tow ONLY if the vehicle is blocking a fire hydrant, fire lane, handicapped spot or posing an imminent threat to the health, safety or welfare of the complex residents, all of which it was not. Please help me...What can I do?

A: see if you can get an earlier DMV appointment--if you can't call your state rep and state senator immediately. Do you have insurance? that's a start. If not, get it. Who had the tow truck tow it? The tow company is responsible--file a complaint with whoever licenses them. Towing is necessary, but often is a racket. Tell your legislators you want it more heavily regulated.
