Louisville, KY asked in Traffic Tickets for Kentucky

Q: Being threatened with suspension of license if traffic case isn’t “closed” in 30 days, am I not allowed to go to trial?

I missed a court date for a traffic ticket because there was absolutely positively no way I could freely take an “off day” at work that day and I couldn’t afford an attorney either. Now I’m being threatened with having my license suspended in 30 days if the case isn’t closed by then. There is absolutely no way it will be closed by then if I take the case to trial, which I would like to do. Am I really being extorted to plead guilty and pay the fine to keep my license, or do I still have my right to fight this? That’s what it sounds like to me. The officer outright lied on the citation.

A: Sounds like extortion. You really need a lawyer to help you in that kind of situation.
