Asked in Family Law and Child Custody for Michigan

Q: My daughter allows hew 1 year old daughter to stay with my daughter's ex-boyfriend. He is not the biological or custod

parent. He routinely will not answer his phone and makes up excuses when she tries to pick her daughter up. The police say that he is a parent and they can't do anything. What can my daughter do to claim her daughter without an issue every time she tries to pick her up?

A: Unfortunately it sounds like your daughter is going to need the services of a family law attorney.

A: I'm sure there is more to the story here, but there seems to be an incredibly simple fix: your daughter could stop bringing the child over to this man's house. I'm unsure what her reasoning is to keep doing something that repeatedly results in police contact when she has no legal obligation to do so.
