Asked in Family Law and Child Custody for Louisiana

Q: If I the non-custodial parent move 6 hours away for a better job can my ex- leave cross country with my children?

I’m the non custodial parent, my ex my two children and myself live in Louisiana right outside New Orleans . I have a chance to work in my field for triple my salary but the job is in Houston. 6 hours away. If I take this job would my My ex wife be able to take our kids to New York. I plan to offer to pay all travel expenses as long as they are in Louisiana. And keep the same custody schedule.

A: Your moving legally does not enable them to move. But you will have to pay all transportation for your child.

A: Following up on the post of attorney Badeaux, you should definitely contact a lawyer, perhaps the one who might have handled the initial custody/visitation for you, and discuss your opportunity and how it affects your custody/visitation and what can be done to improve on this. Good luck.
