A: If the mortgage exceeds the value of the house, then the bank would get the house. There might not be anything for you to do. Use the Find a Lawyer tab to retain a local probate attorney to review the situation and advise you if you need to do anything.

A: If the reverse mortgage balance is lower than the amount you will net by selling it, you can sell it, pay off the mortgage company and keep the balance. You will need to open a probate estate to get both the house and the bank account. It will cost you little or nothing to consult with an expert probate lawyer to help you with this process, or at least give you advice on the specifics of your situation.
