Pleasantville, NY asked in Uncategorized for New York

Q: can someone using my address for drivers license access my credit/steal my house?

My friend is between permanent living spaces and is using my address to receive mail temporarily. She just renewed her drivers license online and used my address. Can she damage my credit or access my personal finances in any way now that she is recognized as living here on a NYS document?

A: It would seem unlikely, without having more sensitive personal information such as social security number, mother's maiden name, or things of that nature that most financial institutions use as safeguards. Additionally, there are certain formalities observed in transferring ownership of a house. Nothing is guaranteed; there are always new identify theft ploys being used every day. There's so much information out there - but it would seem unlikely based on what you describe. Good luck
