Seattle, WA asked in Landlord - Tenant for Oregon

Q: My landlord tried to kick me off property after being one day late on rent. He told me I have a few days. I refused

Until I has another place. 3 weeks later the barn and my trailer burned it was a complete loss. He didn't want to fix the electrical problem. So I had to start using a generator for power. That's what started the fire. So they say. He sexually harrased me the whole time I lived on his property. I have proof. He didn't want me to come back to property after the fire . I told him I was gonna turn him in for sexual harrasmet. He gave me 3 days to go thru the ashes.. I belive he was hiding something and he started the fire. And if not he was still negligent on power tgat I paid extra 50$ month for. This left me and my 5 dogs homeless.and I lost everything. Including personal items, my home, motorcycle. It was a complete loss. I believe he started the fire. I have proof of what I'm saying is true, I have documents, text, pictures. He did not have barn insured so he says. I need help. He neglected to fix power. I was being shocked.. I even paid for 2 electricians to come and told him.

A: I am not clear what you are asking. If the property burned, the landlord's insurance (if he does have any) is not likely to cover your property losses - that is what tenant insurance is for. If you had tenant insurance, you should have filed a claim. Same as to your motorcycle. If you do not have it, that is a shame but was the risk you deliberately took and now lost. IF you have proof that the landlord or someone on his behalf started the fire, talk with the police and/or fire department. Sexual harassment has nothing to do with your right to continue to occupy the premises or to return to them. File or don't file a complaint against him but it does not change your rights to terminate your tenancy or to continue it for that matter.
