A: I'm going to start by stating a truth that a lot of people don't want to hear: the best lawyers defend people against their own worst enemy: themselves. Now, I'm not going to wholeheartedly defend CPS, because they are not always right either. But the fact you are involved in this legal proceeding suggests that there were some things you could have done differently...had you known. You lawyer has training and experience in the law and procedure to cover that knowledge that you would otherwise not know.

Ask yourself this: how many times have you been in this situation? Then ask how many times your lawyer has dealt with similar situations? How many times a week do you think this judge hears these cases? The point is that your lawyer probably has a better sense of the complexities in your case. Everyone involved in your case has done this many more times than you have. By muting you (and believe me, if you are trying to talk directly to the judge, there is a high degree of likelihood that you'd say something to greatly jeopardize your case) and not doing what you ask exactly, he or she is probably saving you from a world of hurt that you don't even see. That is why even lawyers hire other lawyers to represent them, because when you are personally involved in a case, we all have a tendency not to see our own problems or weak points in the case.
