A: Florida is an at-will employment state, meaning the employee or the employer can terminate the employment relationship at any time and for any reason. Thus, your employer is not required to give you a reason for your termination or notification of your termination via a separation letter. However, the one exception to this general rule is if you were fired for a discriminatory reason (i.e. based on race, sex, age, disability, religion, etc.). If you believe you were targeted for termination on this basis, you should contact a Florida attorney to discuss your situation.
