Q: How do I know a summons is legit and not a scare tactic from the other party’s attorney?

A: See if there is a file stamp in the box at the top right. If so, the complaint and summons have been filed and it’s a real lawsuit. Doesn’t necessarily mean the other side wants to take the case all the way to trial, but it certainly suggests that they are serious about pursuing the litigation.
